Funny, you don't look like a gardener...

I used to laugh my ass off when I worked at the nurseries and someone would come shopping very much dressed the part of a gardener... just to go and buy some Hostas... Long sleeved denim shirt, khakis and rubber clogs- or even better Wellingtons- with a large straw hat and gloves. Perhaps and fly fishing vest filled with seeds, a dibbler, row signs, a cultivator and a pair of binoculars. Are you kidding me? I work here and I'm wearing a Hello Kitty t-shirt and a thong...

But I'm getting off course. I don't believe in looking like a gardener. But there's a few things I do wear that are an homage to gardening, if you will...

I don't...

1. I don't like perfumes that don't remind me of something I grow- Lavender, Tuberose, Roses, I'm searching for a real and true Heliotrope... I hate those lame perfumes that say they are Lilac or Lavender but really they just smell Purple. What the hell does Purple smell like?

2. I never wear anything khaki, too expected

3. I won't wear any floral print that isn't accurate. So if that looks like a Tulip and a Knifophia did it, I'm not wearing it because they never, ever will. Ever.

4. Straw hats, ugh   I try to keep them on the wackier and younger side, but there's not a whole lot out there...

5. I wear nothing from any of the outdoors stores, L.L. Bean, North Face, you name it, blech...

6. I used to have a few pairs of overalls but those are unflattering on women with... um, the goods

What I do love that's gardeny-

1. Dansko clogs. Gee whiz, I have a mess of them.

2. Oops, I also love pretty much any other sort of clog- but I swear it's more of a Scandinavian thing that a horticultural thing

3. Pockets, lots of them- gotta have pockets for your Nextel and Felcos and truck keys...

4. Stuff with Strawberries on it

5. Dr. Bronner's lavender soap, really does smell like lavender! Makes a great insecticidal soap too!

6. Sunglasses, greaaaaaat big ones.

8. I've decided to add some much needed glamour and horticulture to my head with these awesome flower barrettes from My Vintage Hut. The Anemones really look like Anemones, the Gardenias look like they would smell subtlety of coconuts and young love (as Gardenias do)... and the Orchids are rad. What else suits a glamorous retro garden girl like myself? Dan found this site for me and now I just can't decide what to get.

9. I have decided that not only am I going to buy this little guy, I'm buying all of you one too....

10. Yes, I do have a softness for rubber boots. But they have to be fashiony and/or wack-a-doo...

What do you do that is decidedly gardeny that your non-gardening friends just don't understand? Share with me so we can be a band of jolly gardening nut jobs together!
